’ to some people and they run a mile. However, it’s not as difficult as you think. Our
ESSENTIALS -
Test strips - These strips will tell you what’s wrong or right with your water.
Chemicals - A chemical starter kit will have all the necessary chemicals to get your started.
LEVELS THAT SHOULD BE MONITORED -
• PH levels - between 7.2 and 7.6
• Alkalinity - between 80 – 120
• Sanitizer levels - Chlorine 1.5 – 3.0 and Bromine 3.0 – 5.0
• Make sure the water is clear from leaves, debris, or foam.
The above below illustrates which chemical to use if your levels increase
or decrease.

So, what do these chemicals do?
Chlorine - (the first most popular sanitiser)
The same way you may use bleach to kill bacteria, fungus, and viruses in your bathroom, chlorine does all that for your hot tub water. The smell chlorine produces is a result of the chlorine killing contaminants by oxidizing.
Bromine - (the second most popular sanitiser)
Bromine also has a few advantages over chlorine, it has a lower pH than chlorine, making it a little easier to keep the water balanced, it lasts longer and it’s gentler on your skin.
While it lasts longer than chlorine, it also works more slowly, which means contaminants are in the water longer before they are destroyed. bromine ionizes contaminants, breaking them apart at the molecular level, which means they do not omit smells often associated with chlorine.
Alkalinity
When balancing your hot tub chemistry, you’ll need to adjust alkalinity before trying to balance the pH level. Alkalinity acts as a pH buffer, keeping it from drastically changing.
pH
Too-high pH is one of the main causes of cloudy hot tub water. If the level goes above 7.6, and you start to see problems, try using a pH decreaser to brings things back down to normal.
Top Tips Long Term Tips on Keeping Your Hot Tub Clean
1. A quick rinse off in the shower before you jump in. Creams, perfumes etc. can cause your water to get dirtier quicker.
2. Rinse your costume with clear water after your dip. Washing powders and softeners all add to the differing water chemical levels, it’s also a prime factor for foam accumulating on the surface.
3. Change the water in your hot tub every 3-4 months.
4. Ensure you have a hot tub cover to keep debris at bay.
5. A weekly clean of your hot tubs shell with white vinegar or a mild non-abrasive, non-foam cleaner, this should help in keeping it shiny.
6. Ensure you clean under your removable hot tub pillows with mild cleaner (such as white vinegar or washing up liquid). Please refer to your manual for removal of pillows.
7. Replace your filters every 5-6 months with genuine Luso Spas filters. It’s advisable to have a spare set and rotate fortnightly.
